How many massages per day can a therapist do?

There is no official number. Your hands set the limit before your calendar does. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics work environment notes say many therapists cannot do massage 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, so plan a daily cap of hands-on hours first, then let session length and buffers decide how many clients fit.

The BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook also notes that part-time work is common, that therapists usually work by appointment, and that 36% of massage therapists are self-employed. Self-employed or not, the booking decision is yours to make on purpose.

Rule of thumb from this page: decide hands-on hours, then subtract buffers; never the other way round.

What booking looks like when the client texts

BookingSolved reads only the request you choose, checks your Apple Calendar, and suggests open times inside your business hours, around existing appointments, using each service's duration and buffer. These are its App Store screenshots.

Who should pick something else

The honest limit: your first 3 completed actions are free. After that, BookingSolved Pro (monthly or yearly) covers unlimited bookings, reschedules and cancellations. Undo is always free.

How it works in 3 steps

  1. Set the service once. Edit a starter service: name it "60-min massage", set the duration, and add your prep buffer for linens and notes.
  2. Share the client's message. Paste the text, pick a screenshot or use the Share Sheet. Vague parts like "next Friday" are flagged instead of guessed.
  3. Approve and reply. BookingSolved re-checks your calendar before saving, won't create a duplicate if you tap twice, and gives you a Friendly, Professional or Concise reply to send yourself.

Massage scheduling questions

How long should the break between massages be?
Long enough to change linens, wash up, write notes and reset your body. Many therapists use 15 minutes; deep tissue or a client who likes to talk may need 30. Put the number into your service buffer so it is never skipped.
How many massages a week is full time?
There is no official definition. In our planner example, five hour-long massages a day over five days is 25 hands-on hours a week, with intake, notes, laundry and admin on top.
Are 90-minute sessions harder on the body?
They mean more continuous pressure per client, and fewer clients fit a day. With a 5-hour cap and 15-minute buffers, a 9-to-6 day holds 3 ninety-minute sessions versus 5 sixty-minute ones.
Can BookingSolved stop me overbooking?
It suggests open times only inside your business hours and around existing appointments, using each service's duration and buffer. It doesn't set a daily hands-on cap for you, so keep that rule yourself.

A Thursday, planned on purpose

A therapist works 9 to 6 with a 30-minute lunch. On the clock, hour-long massages with 15-minute resets would fit seven clients. Their own rule is 5 hands-on hours a day, so they stop at five: 9:00, 10:15, 11:30, then lunch, then 1:15 and 2:30, finished by 3:30 with notes and laundry done before 6.

When a regular texts "any chance of 4 today?", the answer is already decided. They offer Friday at 10:15 instead, and the reply is ready to copy.

Plan your own day

Change any number. The planner fills slots from your start time, skips lunch, and stops when either the clock or your hands-on cap runs out.

Struck-through slots fit the clock but go past your hands-on cap.

Let the buffer book itself

Set your service once, share a client's text, and approve a booking that already respects your reset time.
