How should a mobile detailer schedule the day?

Schedule a mobile detailing day from arrival to departure, not from wash to wipe-down: each booking needs its service time plus setup and pack-down, the drive to the next car, and a buffer for the car that's dirtier than described. Book the longest job first, cluster jobs by area, and leave your last start time with real slack.

If the next client only sees service time, your day ends an hour later than they think it does.

Six mobile detailing scheduling tips

  1. Time your own services. Online averages vary wildly by car size and condition. Time your next five jobs of each type and use those numbers.
  2. Count setup and pack-down as booked time. Hoses, water tank, extractor, towels and a final walk-around belong to the appointment, not the gap between.
  3. Price the drive, then cluster. The IRS business standard mileage rate is 76 cents a mile for July 1 to December 31, 2026 (it was 72.5 cents for the first half of the year), per the mid-year IRS update, so a 12-mile hop between clients is worth about $9.12 before the time it takes. Book same-area clients on the same day.
  4. Put heavy work early in summer. OSHA's heat guidance recommends "scheduling work for the morning or shorter shifts with frequent rest breaks." Paint correction at 3 p.m. in July is slower and harder on you.
  5. Ask about water and runoff when you book. Wash water rules are local. Florida's DEP mobile washing guidance, for example, says wash water can't be discharged to storm drains without a permit. Knowing the site saves a wasted trip.
  6. Keep one buffer you never sell. Fifteen minutes per car absorbs pet hair, a late client or traffic without pushing every later appointment.

Drive cost uses the IRS business standard mileage rate of 76 cents a mile for July 1 to December 31, 2026 (it was 72.5 cents for the first half of the year). Times are planning estimates; traffic and the car decide the rest.

      Honest limits

      • This planner doesn't know real drive times. Use your maps app for tomorrow's route and enter the minutes.
      • BookingSolved doesn't map routes either. It uses the duration and the prep or travel buffer you set for each service.
      • BookingSolved stores no prices and doesn't take deposits or payments.
      • Requests are processed on your iPhone. Anything unclear, like "next Friday," is flagged instead of guessed.

      Who should pick something else

      • If you want clients to book and pay a deposit online themselves, use a booking page with payments. BookingSolved has no booking portal by design.
      • If you run several vans with dispatch and routing, you need fleet scheduling software.
      • If you're on Android: BookingSolved needs iOS 18 on iPhone or iPad.

How BookingSolved books the next car

      1. Set your detailing services once. Start from the auto detailing preset, then edit each service's name, duration and prep or travel buffer.
      2. Paste or share the client's message. "Can you do Saturday at 10?" becomes a proposed appointment checked against your Apple Calendar. When someone asks when you're free, you get open times inside your business hours, around existing bookings.
      3. Approve, then send the reply yourself. Nothing changes in your Calendar until you approve, and the confirmation comes ready in a Friendly, Professional or Concise tone.

One design decision we made on purpose: the buffer lives on the service, so you never have to remember to add it at booking time.

      An example Saturday

A solo detailer books a full detail at 8:00 and promises a second full detail "around noon." Service time says that works: 8:00 to noon, noon to 4:00. With 30 minutes of setup and pack-down per car, a 25-minute drive and a 15-minute buffer, the first car is packed and buffered at 12:45, the second arrival is 1:10, the detail itself starts at 1:25 and pack-down ends at 5:40, forty minutes past a 5:00 finish.

Telling the second client 1:10 instead of "around noon" costs nothing at booking time. Arriving 70 minutes late costs a review.

Book the next car with real buffers

Your first 3 completed actions are free, so you can try the full flow on a real client message. Undo is always free.
